A Dramatic Summer Solstice for a Dracula

We celebrate the Summer Solstice today.
An especially long day.
The longest day of the year was merely inconvenient. Vlad disagreed.
There are times when we shouldn’t make too much of it all.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
Summer Solstice dawns.
The room bathes in golden light.
Vlad draws the curtains.
He flexes his incisors,
Bares them. Plainly.
Then withdraws.
The light portends ill.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
He bolts the windows.
Blankets. Baskets. Boxes. Bars.
Umbrellas in the shade.
Laundry baskets-
Without the laundry.
One must be prepared.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
Then his castle–
Bakes.
He runs on tiptoe–
Vlad on a hot-tin roof.
Chased by the sun’s slicing rays.
His panicked prances a performance
For timely photos.
And Dracbook.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
He flees, fallen, through the town.
A timely troop of townsfolk in tow (toe).
The crowd participates in the Parade of Players.
That breaks into ballad.
He blunders into a bush.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
Then drops beneath a dendron.
The dawn of dusk.
The dispersal of denizens.
The day is done.
Vlad stays–
Vlad.
π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦π¦
His flushed photos on Dracbook.

For Mikeydred’s June challenge
Mirrors of the Mind by Michelle Liew is a collection of psychological and supernatural short stories that explore the quiet unease beneath ordinary moments. These are not tales of spectacle, but of subtle fracture β where memory distorts, silence speaks, and the self is not always singular. In these stories, what is unseen often carries the greatest weight, and what lingers is not what is shown, but what is felt.
