The Cold Call

Georgina needed assistance. She reached out to an airconditioning technician.

Who couldn’t identify a single fault.

“Nothing seems wrong with it. And — “ He pointed to the remote’s display panel. 25 degrees celcius. “The temperature seems constant.”

But…

2:14.

COLD.

The remote had to be going rogue.

Georgina exhaled a could of hapless vapour.

And another.

And another came out before her.

She held a breath.

But that didn’t stop the others.

Mirrors of the Mind by Michelle Liew is a collection of psychological and supernatural short stories that explore the quiet unease beneath ordinary moments. These are not tales of spectacle, but of subtle fracture — where memory distorts, silence speaks, and the self is not always singular. In these stories, what is unseen often carries the greatest weight, and what lingers is not what is shown, but what is felt.
